ON THE LIMINALITY OF SURFACES: Online Seminar with Lewis Freedman

ON THE LIMINALITY OF SURFACES

with Lewis Freedman

A four-week online seminar held over Zoom.

4-6pm EST
Sundays: February 20 and 27; March 6 and 13

Where in this place we are in do we disappear to when we enter into the interiority of our pages and screens? Where do we reappear in and from? Or not only where, but how? How is it that surfaces appear to us (are performed by us) as the liminal sites for the disappearance and appearance of our selves?

This seminar will experiment with the dynamics of disappearance and reappearance in the acts of reading & writing, inventing & looking towards ways in which we might appear & examine the disappearance while we're here & gone. Works that we'll look to & write alongside, works that account for, that in some way materialize the surface of writing in compositional time will include those by Mirtha Dermisache, Renee Gladman, Robert Grenier, N. H. Pritchard, & Hannah Wiener, among others.

The seminar will meet via Zoom, once a week over four weeks. Poets & artists & writers of all backgrounds are encouraged to participate. All texts will be made available to participants in advance of the seminar.

Limited to 15 participants, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Lewis Freedman is the author of Residual Synonyms for the Name of God and I Want Something Other Than Time (both from Ugly Duckling Presse) as well as many chapbooks of poetry, including Am Perhaps Yet (Oxeye).
