WHAT THE LETTER'S DOING WHEN THE WORD ISN'T LOOKING: An Inquiry with Lewis Freeman

$ 200.00

This seminar emerges from a disagreement between letter and word. That is, it emerges from the way the letter appears to be working only for the word (and so disappears into phonetic function even as it varies wildly from it), while the word seems to be for the world!

In this weekly, four-session seminar we will experiment with the anterior mobility of the letter by looking to and writing alongside poems in which the letter moves independently, whether away from or towards the semantics of the word. Poets we'll look to will include Etel Adnan,Tirzah Goldenberg, H.F. Henderson, Jackson Mac Low, bpNichol, Julie Patton, Gabriel Pomerand, N.H. Pritchard, giovanni singleton, and Christopher Smart. The materials will be freely available to all seminar participants. Artists, writers, and interested persons of all backgrounds are encouraged to participate.
