$ 35.00

SOFTCOVER LONG-STITCH BINDING

with Willa Goettling

A one-day online seminar held over Zoom.

7pm to 9pm
Thursday, October 29

In this workshop participants will learn how to make soft-cover journals using the intermediate hand-binding method: longstitch. Covers can be made using a cover-weight paper such as cardstock, or can be made from a durable textile such as leather, vellum, or heavy cotton canvas. The folios (pages) of the book will be made up of a light-weight paper such as copy paper. Participants will be encouraged to follow demonstrations in real-time, although will not be required. Necessary materials to create one long-stitch book include:

  • 36 sheets of roughly 8.5 x 11” text-weight paper (such as standard copy paper)
  • 1 sheet of roughly 11 x 17” cover-weight paper (such as card stock) or heavy textile
  • Waxed linen thread
  • Bone folder
  • Awl
  • Sewing needle or bookbinder’s needle
  • Scissors
  • 18" ruler (metal ruler with cork backing works best)
  • pencil
  • Self-healing mat
  • Utility knife w/ snap-off blade or x-acto

Limited to 20 participants, on a first-come, first-served basis.
